WHEN YOU SAY WATER
The goal of this project was to raise awareness about a topic surrounding food, fuel, or water and how it connects to the changing climate. This idea was to be communicated through postage stamp design. The designs presented here focus on the problem of groundwater pollution - specifically in our aquifers. I chose to communicate this very broad topic by creating busy designs on simple images. I was inspired by glitch art, and created many different layers of color and pattern based off of images of water, people, and scenic landscapes to incorporate into my final designs. I wanted to communicate the idea of our water becoming tainted, and that in turn, we are putting our health in danger. I feel like my design language succeeded in doing that.

I felt that this message was important because by doing the things that contribute to groundwater pollution, we are not only hurting our resources, we are hurting ourselves. Humans need water to live, so we are locked into the hydrological cycle, playing just as big of a part in it as a lake or a stream. Causing harm to something that we rely on to exist just doesn’t make sense. That is why I thought it would be important to inform people about things that we are unaware are polluting our water. In doing this, I would hope that light can be shed on this ongoing and worsening problem, and that something can be done to stop it.
